Sea Limited Establishes AI Centre of Excellence in Singapore to Drive AI-Native Innovation

Sea Limited has announced the launch of an Artificial Intelligence Centre of Excellence (“AI CoE”) in Singapore, as part of its stated ambition to become an AI-native organisation. The initiative is backed by Digital Industry Singapore (“DISG”), a joint office established by the Singapore Economic Development Board, Enterprise Singapore and the Infocomm Media Development Authority.

The AI CoE will concentrate on three principal objectives: advancing foundational AI research, scaling the deployment of AI-powered solutions across Sea's business operations and cultivating a new generation of AI-native talent. The centre will also explore innovative operating models made possible by AI, as part of Sea’s broader technology-first approach to business development.

Over the course of the next three years, the initiative is projected to generate demand for at least 100 research, development and innovation-focused roles in Singapore, spanning AI research, engineering and product development. The centre’s work is expected to make a meaningful contribution to the growth of Singapore's wider AI ecosystem.

A central element of the AI CoE's work will involve the advancement of Sea’s proprietary AI technologies, including Compass Max v3.5, a large language model with 245 billion parameters, designed specifically for Southeast Asian languages and e-commerce applications. The model and its variants are already deployed across Sea’s e-commerce platform, Shopee, where they power a range of AI-driven features aimed at improving responsiveness and operational efficiency. The centre will also develop evaluation frameworks, internal tooling and supporting infrastructure to enable the sustainable deployment of AI solutions at scale.

The initiative aligns with Singapore's National AI Strategy 2.0 and the priorities set out in Singapore Budget 2026, reinforcing the country's ambition to establish itself as a leading global hub for AI.
